Obituary

CHICOPEE – Robert N. “Bob” Paul, 83, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, December 4, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on July 6, 1939, a beloved son of the late Arthur J. and Anna M. (Lapointe) Paul. He was raised and educated in Chicopee and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. He was employed as a Firefighter for the City of Chicopee and began his career as a Reserve Firefighter in 1965. He later went on to become a Firefighter in 1966, a Lieutenant in 1974 and retired in 1996 as a Captain. His station assignments included Station Three on Center Street, Station Five on Chicopee Street and lastly Station Four on Burnett Road. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where he and his wife, Theresa, volunteered their time with their weekly Bingo concessions. Active in Chicopee, he was a member of the Chicopee Comprehensive High School Band Parents, a life member of the Chicopee Lodge of Elks 1849, the Elder Council 69 Knights of the Columbus, a member and longtime volunteer with the Aldenville Junior Athletic Club (AJACS) and a volunteer with the annual Fireball Club Kielbasa Festival, all in Chicopee. He was a dog lover and during his leisure time enjoyed cheering on his New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Theresa E. (Hebert) Paul. They were married on September 5, 1959 at Saint Patrick Church in South Hadley Falls and were blessed with over 63 years of happiness together. He also leaves his four loving children, Michelle Paul of South Dennis, Robert R. Paul and (Tony), of Southwick, Suzanne T. Paul of Chicopee and Denise D. Duplisea of Davenport, FL; his four cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Duplisea-Antunes and Daniel, Kristine and Robert Duplisea; his cherished grand dog, Gracie; his five cherished great grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Duplisea, Nathan and Lucas Antunes and Rylan Duplisea; his dear brother, Roger Paul of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, fellow firefighters, friends and extended members of the Paul and Hebert families. His family would like to extend their deepest thanks to his nurses, Cheryl and Carolyn of Beacon Hospice and Katie of the Sister Caritas Cancer Center for their compassionate care of Robert. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his seven dear siblings, Jean Avey, Cecile Paul, Rita Bihler, Joseph and Raymond Paul, Lillian Demers and Irene Paul; and his best friend, Lionel “Red” LaBelle. His funeral will be held on Friday, December 9, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 9, 2022 from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to his Mass. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
