Obituary

Nellie Mae Coker Fields, 85, of Omega passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2022, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Joseph L. Crumley and the Rev. Danny Smith officiating. Mrs. Fields will be laid to rest at Omega Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Brian Etchison, Chris Etchison, Adam Johnson, Ricky Harper, KC Harrington and Michael Slater will serve as pallbearers.

Born August 10, 1937, in Berrien County, Mrs. Fields was the daughter of the late Thomas R. Coker and Lona Bell Yawn Coker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter James Fields; one daughter, Gwendolyn June Fields; two brothers, Harvey Coker and N. Gerald Coker; and three sisters, Betty C. Grantham, Margie C. Guyton and Merle Slater. Before retiring, she worked for 32 years in the office of the Cutting Department at Fitzgerald Underwear. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Omega.

Mrs. Fields is survived by one son, Ronnie Fields of Omega; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Gordon Etchison of Perkinston, Mississippi; one brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Sandra Coker of Inverness, Florida; one sister, Peggy Edgley of Lake City, Florida; three grandsons and their wives, Brian and Saundra Etchison of Mount Juliet, Tennessee, Christopher and Jessica Etchison of Perkinston, Mississippi and Adam Johnson of Crosland; one granddaughter and her husband, Beth and Tim Bruner of Tifton; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
