Obituary

Phillip E. Chasse, Jr., 82, of New Bedford passed away Wednesday November 30, 2022. He was the husband of Priscilla (Genard) Chasse.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Phillip E. and Albertine (Gaumond) Chasse, he lived in New Bedford for all of his life.

Phillip was a graduate of St. Anthony High School, Class of 1958 and New Bedford Institute of Technology, now UMass Dartmouth, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, Class of 1962. In 1983, he received his Master of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College.

He began his long career in public service in 1963 as a social worker for the New Bedford Welfare Department and later at the Fairhaven Welfare Department. In 1968 he began as a probation officer in the New Bedford District Court and retired in 1999 as the Assistant Chief Probation Officer.

Phillip was a Past President of the Pairpoint Cup Plate Collectors of America and served on the Board of Directors for the New Bedford Museum of Glass. An avid musician, he was a member of the Sharp Shooters Drum and Bugle Corps, and a drummer for the Jets Rock-n-Roll Band and numerous other local bands.

He enjoyed listing to music (Doo-Wop and Christmas music), repairing and building computers, attending car cruises with his 95 Trans Am Firebird convertible, spending time with his family, watching movies in his home theater, and watching the New York Yankees and New England Patriots.

He is survived by his wife, Priscilla; five sons, Phillip Chasse III and wife Lissa, Paul Chasse and wife Lisa, Patrick Chasse and Kelly, Peter Chasse, and Palmer Chasse; 10 grandchildren, Brian Chasse and his companion Natalya Guglielmo, Valerie Schroeder and her husband Johnathan, Tyler Chasse, Phillip Chasse IV and his fiancée Tristyn Desrosiers, Nichelle Chasse and her companion Simeon Grays, Trevor Chasse, Alaina Chasse, Nathan Chasse, Amanda Bertrand and her companion Jared Tanz, and Adam Bertrand and his wife Kayla; eight great-grandchildren, Emmitt Schroeder, Owen Schroeder, Phillip Chasse V, Morgan Schroeder, Lilly Chasse, Annaleah DaCosta, Josie Bertrand, and Cortni Bertrand; his mother-in-law, Delima (Darcy) Genard; his sisters-in-law, Florence DesRoches and her husband Conrad, and Candy Genard; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Alcide Genard and his brother-in-law, Robert Genard.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday December 5th at 10 AM at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. His family will receive visitors at church from 9-10 AM prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Community Nurse Home Care, 62 Center St., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
