Obituary

Johanna J. Murray, 100, of Smithfield, passed away on Monday, November, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Having been born October 4, 1922 she recently celebrated her milestone 100th birthday. She was the wife of the late Raymond J. Murray.

Mrs. Murray was born in Providence, the daughter of the late Daniel and Cecelia (Fox) Coffey.

Johanna graduated Hope High School, Class of 1940. She worked as a switchboard operator for Providence Chamber of Commerce, New England Telephone and the Providence Red Cross.

Johanna was an avid reader and loved music. She was proud of her Irish Heritage. Her biggest loves were her family, her 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren to whom she always was “Grandma Jo”.

Johanna is survived by her daughter Mary Matthews and her husband, Bennie of Van Nuys, CA, Joan Pierpaoli and husband, Tony of Smithfield, with whom she lived for 45 years. She is also survived by her sister, Agnes Diggins of Providence and Helena Eldredge of Smithfield. She also leaves 11 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held Friday at 10am from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visitation will be Thursday, 4-6pm. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to The Autism Project or St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, at St. Philip Church.
