Obituary

Philip J. Myers a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Thursday May 25, 2006 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 76 years old.

Phil was born in Boston, grew up in Charlestown, where he attended Boston Public Schools. He entered into the United States Army in the late 1940's. Following his discharge from the Army, He began working for The Boston Record American Newspaper in Boston in 1949 which later became The Boston Herald. He worked as a paper hauler for over 47 years. He retired in 1996. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local # 25, The "520" Club in Charlestown and was a Friend of "Bill W."

Phil was the beloved husband of the late Helen (O'Neil) Myers. He is the devoted father of Philip J. Myers Jr. and his fiance Kathy Kacvinsky, Paul F. Myers and his wife Ann, Karen Scales and her husband John, Maryellen McCann and her companion Joe Jassett and the late Patrick J. Myers. Phil is the loving grandfather of 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of Helen Hegarty of Peabody, Claire Marchesi of Chelsea, Ruth McLaughlin of Charlestown, Frances Vita of Florida and the late Joanne Peterson. He is the dear friend of Ronnie Barrett of South Boston.

Phil's Funeral will be held on Wednesday May 31, 2006 at 9 am. from The Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Phil will be held on Tuesday May 30, 2006 from 4 to 8 pm. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
