Obituary


Marie M. Devine, 74, of Scituate Massachusetts, formerly of Whitman Massachusetts, died unexpectedly on November 21st at her home in Scituate. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1948, she was the 2nd of eight children to James and Margaret Curtin of Weymouth MA.

Graduated from Weymouth High School in 1966, earned her Masters in Business Administration from Lesley College in 1996 while working full time at Codman & Shurtleff and worked for over 40 years under Johnson & Johnson until her retirement in 2014.

She raised her family in Whitman MA. She was active in supporting her sons and her son’s teams. She was also a great athlete herself. She had great memories of her Whitman softball and soccer leagues. She also enjoyed bowling and playing racquetball. She loved watching and supporting her grandchildren as they grew participating in cheer, field hockey, soccer, basketball, hockey, and horseback riding. She loved cheering her favorite football team, the Scituate Sailors every Friday night in the fall. Marie also loved volunteering her time. She participated in dozens of walks and donated platelets regularly to Dana Farber. She loved quilting, photography and exercising in her spare time. Most of all she loved spending time with her cherished friends and family.

She leaves behind two sons, Herb and Kelly Devine of Scituate, and Joseph Devine of Marshfield. Her brothers and sisters, Jeanne Carleton - N. Fort Myers, FL (sister), Marilyn & John Murray - N. Fort Myers, FL (sister), Barbara Curtin - Hampton Falls, NH (sister), Jimmy & Bonnie Curtin - Sagamore Beach, MA (brother), Steve & Colleen Curtin - White Fish, MT (brother), Eileen & Brian Duarte - Pelham, NH (sister), George & Maureen Curtin - Hampton, NH (brother). Her grandchildren, Madison, Lyla, Ivey, Tula, Charlotte, Henry, Posey, Bodey, and Willa.

Family and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours on Thursday December 1 from 4-7 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman and her funeral service on Friday December 2 at 9:45 AM from the Chapel, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will be in the Fairmont Cemetery, Weymouth.
