Obituary

Katherine (Poulias) Nanis, 96, of Worcester passed away in her home of 60 years surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, November 22nd. She was predeceased by her husband of 22 years, John Nanis in 1977. She leaves two sons, George Nanis and his wife, Joyce of Westborough, and Greg Nanis and his wife, Janet of Paxton; a sister, Froso Lalos of Worcester; two grandchildren, John and Nicholas Nanis who were the light of her life; and many nephews and nieces.
She was born in Giromeri, Epirus, Greece the daughter of Gregorios and Eleni (Theologi) Poulias and immigrated to the United States in 1948. Katherine worked for Table Talk Pie for many years as a baker where she met and later married her husband, John in 1955. She later worked at the former Harrington and Richardson Company in its quality control department testing rifles for the war effort. She was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and its Seniors Group enjoying many countless trips with fellow group members. Katherine enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Her visitation is Saturday, November 26th from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester with her funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, 119 Webster Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is assisting the family with arrangements.
