Obituary

Mary F. (Matherwiez) Burke a lifelong resident of Needham died on Thursday May 25 at the Stanley R. Tippett House in Needham. She was 84 years old. Mrs. Burke was a graduate of Needham High School. She worked for many years at the former Calvert’s Clothing Store in Needham and at Owen’s Poultry Farm. Mrs. Burke was a parishioner of Saint Joseph Church. The beloved wife of the late William J. Burke, she was the dear mother of Sandra M. Slack Backstrom and her husband Phillip Backstrom of Millis, Christine A. Fleming and her husband Lawrence J. Fleming of Millis, Thomas F. Burke and his wife Denise Burke of Southboro and the late William T. Burke and Cynthia J. Burke. Sister of Veronica Ewing of Sandwich, Frank Matherwiez of New York, Vincent Youdis of Needham and the late Tony, Joseph and Peter Matherwiez. Cherished grandmother of Tracie Slack of Wellesley, Jennifer Slack of Waltham, Scott Fleming of Charlestown, Melissa Fleming of Cambridge, Brian Fleming of Millis, Samantha Burke and Kyle Burke both of Southboro. Funeral from the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Avenue Needham on Saturday May 27 at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours on Friday from 4-8 PM. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Needham. In lieu of flowers donations in Mary’s name may be made to the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing P.O. Box 220 Topsfield MA 01983 or to the Stanley R.
