Obituary

Laura (Bardaczuk) Mazzin, 91, of Mountain View Community, Water Village Road, Ossipee, NH, passed away on November 16, 2022, just shy of her 92nd birthday, following a period of declining health. Born in Dubno, Ukraine on November 18, 1930, Laura survived World War II, living in Eastern Europe and Germany before emigrating to Boston, Mass., in 1951, then later relocating to New Hampshire in the 1980s. Earlier in her new life in America, Mrs. Mazzin worked as a seamstress, commercial cleaner, and as a housekeeper for families in the Boston area before retiring and moving to Portsmouth, NH. Laura is survived by five children including four daughters: Stephanie (Kos) Dubowyj and her husband Andrew of Londonderry, NH; Anna (Kos) Joyal and her husband Chris, of Reno, NV; Larissa (Pawula) Mulkern and her husband Michael, of East Wakefield, NH; Natalie (Pawula) Carr of Dover, NH; and a son, Peter Pawula, of Portsmouth, NH. She is also survived by three grand-daughters, Zina Dubowyj of Dedham, MA., Nadia Dubowyj, of Milford, CT, and Rachel Carr of Dover, NH, and two grandsons, Alex Warner and Aaron Weiner who live on the West Coast. Laura is predeceased by her husband, Michael Mazzin, who passed in 2001. Known for her spunk and sense of humor with nursing home staff, Laura enjoyed knitting, jigsaw puzzles, flower gardening, music, taking walks in the halls of the Mountain View facility, and wheelchair rides outdoors where she enjoyed nature, the gardens and birds. But mostly, Laura loved being with family, who will remember her great cooking, fast driving, sense of humor and independence. She was fluent in several languages, including Ukrainian, Russian, German, and Czechoslovakian, and was called upon to translate from time to time. A Requiem Divine Liturgy will be held at the Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church 174 Forest Hills St. Jamaica Plain, on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may visit with her family at the church from 9 am until 10 am prior to the Liturgy. Interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Mountain View Community Recreation Fund, 93 Water Village Road, Ossipee, NH 03864.
