Obituary

Thomas O. McNamara, 62, of Medway, died Sunday, November 13, 2022, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with his family by his side after a brief yet courageous battle with leukemia. He was the beloved husband of Lauren B. (Hansen) McNamara since 1982.

Born in Dorchester on February 13, 1960, he was the son of the late Paul and Rita (Hendricks) McNamara.

Tom was a resident of Medway since 1988. He grew up in Lexington and after 8th grade moved to Nantucket, graduating from Nantucket High School in 1978. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Bentley College in Waltham in 1982.

Tom worked for Gallagher Sales Associates in Westborough for the past 4 years and had previously worked for Hansen Electrical Supply in Framingham for 37 years.

Tom loved being part of his sons’ and daughter’s activities when they were growing up. He was one of the founders of Pop Warner in Medway and enjoyed coaching his children’s sports teams. He looked forward to his family vacations every summer down Nantucket and spending time as a family. He loved playing and being with his grandchildren, they thought “Grampy” was so funny. He was a passionate Boston sports fan and enjoyed watching and attending games with family and friends. He also enjoyed working around his yard and taking care of his lawn.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Brian McNamara of Millis and Tyler McNamara and his wife Analida of Franklin, his daughter Stacey Rooney and her husband Jared of Franklin, and three grandchildren, Lucas, Isabella and Logan.

He is also survived by two sisters, Carol Doherty of Norton and Joan Santangelo of Nantucket, his brother John McNamara of Chelmsford, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Paul McNamara.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, November 18 from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com).

His funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 19 at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Millis.
