Obituary

CHICOPEE – Gustaw “Gus” Karwowski, 72, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin, peacefully became an angel with the Lord on November 7, 2022. He was born on January 1, 1950, in Brychy, Grajewo Powiat, Poland to the late Aleksander and Kazimiera (Mroczkowska) Karwowski. His childhood years were spent in Poland before relocating to South Hadley in 1963, later moving to the Fairview section of Chicopee in 1986. Gustaw was employed for many years in the construction and manufacturing industries. He later retired from the roller chain division of U.S. Tsubaki Power Transmission, LLC. He was well-known for his mechanical ability and dedication. Gustaw was an active communicant of the former Mater Dolorosa Church in Holyoke for many treasured years and was currently a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. He was loved and cherished by all whom he encountered throughout his life. Married in Poland on May 27, 1974, Gustaw was predeceased by his loving wife and soulmate of 46 years, Sophie. He leaves behind his loving son and daughter-in-law John and Jamie M. Karwowski of Kissimmee, FL; his cherished grandchildren Alexis Anna Karwowski and her life partner Zaidy Jusino of Chicopee, Brian Keith Elwick Jr. and Alexis Kathleen Elwick of Kissimmee, FL; his dear sisters, Barbara and Marianna of Poland; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family members residing in both the United States and Poland. Gustaw is predeceased by his brothers Jan and Mieczyslaw and his sister Mirka. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will take place after the Mass at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, 152 Pittroff Avenue, South Hadley, MA 01075.
