Columbia G. (Godfrey) Fonzi of Wakefield, MA passed away on November 8, 2022. She was 98 years old. She was also known by her friends and those who she met throughout the years as “Connie.”
Born in Malden, she was the daughter of proud Italian immigrants, Jerry J. and Mildred Godfrey.
She was the devoted wife of the late William R. Fonzi Sr. for more than 58 years.
Connie loved to play golf, dance and take occasional jaunts to her favorite casinos. She enjoyed traveling around the globe with her husband William and best friends Fred and Rose. Let’s not forget her favorite beverage, scotch & tonic with lime. She enjoyed rooting for her New England sports teams - especially the New England Patriots and Boston Bruins. However, the things she loved the most and most proud of was her family. She was a great cook and made sure she always had her grand kid’s favorites on the stove or in the fridge ready to serve. “Chicken cutlets” …. yum!
She was the loving mother of William R. Fonzi Jr. and his wife Carol, Robert J. Fonzi and his wife Correne and Ronald C. Fonzi and his life partner Robby Markow.
She was the sister of the late Jerry J. Godfrey Jr. of Malden, and Lee (Godfrey) Silva of Saugus.
Dear aunt of Jerry J. Godfrey III of Florida and the late Priscilla A. Godfrey of Malden. She was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Connie was the cherished Nana of Tiffany J. Fonzi, Crystal V. DiBartolomeo and her husband Andrew, Jared C. Fonzi and his wife Marisa and the late Marcus W. Fonzi. She was the Great-Nana of Jordana, Jaxson, Mason, Kingston and Dean.
A funeral service will be held at the A. J. Spadafora Funeral Home, 865 Main Street, Malden on Tuesday, November 15th at 1pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Tuesday morning from 10am – 1pm prior to the service. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Connie’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
