Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - Helen K. (Liakopoulos) Catjakis, 91, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. She passed into Eternal Life at Safe Harbor Assisted Living in Feeding Hills surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Bath, Maine on November 4, 1931, a beloved daughter of the late Kostas and Athanasia (Economopoulos) Liakopoulos. She was raised in Bath, Maine, graduated from Morse High School and moved to Springfield around 1956 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a parishioner of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and soul mate, Athan C. "Soco" Catjakis who was Called Home on January 20, 2022. They were married on December 4, 1955 in Bath, Maine and were blessed with over 66 years of happiness together. She leaves her two loving sons, Christopher C. Catjakis and his wife, Sue Ann, of Feeding Hills and Charles P. "Chuck" Catjakis and his wife, Gail, of Agawam; her six cherished grandchildren, Alyssa Chapdelaine and her husband, Brian, Nicholas Catjakis and his wife, Renee, Matthew Catjakis, Courtney O'Brien and her husband, Bill, Mackenzie Doyle and her wife, Zahra, and Taryn Toto and her husband, Joe; her seven cherished great grandchildren, Noah, Harper, Isla, Lukas, Eva, Georgia, and Henry; her dear sister-in-law, Evelyn Pavloglou; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her cherished grandson, Louis A. Catjakis who was Called Home on October 25, 2021; her two dear brothers, George Liakopoulos and his wife, Dorothy and Peter Liakopoulos; her dear sister, Barbara Belanger and her husband, Donald; and her dear brother-in-law, Vasileos Pavloglou. Her family will receive friends on Sunday, November 13, 2022 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. She will Lie in Repose on Monday, November 14, 2022 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. which will be followed by a Funeral Service at 9:30 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107, (please meet directly at the Cathedral). Her Committal Service will follow at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
