Obituary

LEICESTER: Robert H. Mayo,94, died Monday, November 7 th at his home in Rochdale.
Bob was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Leona A. (Pion) Mayo in 2018,
and leaves his son, Joe and wife Cindy of Rochdale, daughter Nancy Hume and
husband Greg of Rochdale, his devoted care givers since 2018; and daughter Judy
Gauvin and husband Tom of Sutton; 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and
many nieces and nephews.
He leaves his brother Donald Mayo of Oxford, and sisters Marjorie "Honey" Charest
of Largo, FL, and Elizabeth "Betty" Trombley and husband Cliff of Summerville, SC,
brother-in-law Victor Pion of Worcester, and sisters-in-law Claire McGaugh of
Stoughton, Alice Vandal of Webster, and Irene Mayo of Charlton.
He was predeceased by his brother Earl Mayo and wife Doris, and sister Shirley
"Pat" Charest and husband Alfred "Pete", as well as brothers-in-law Ernest Charest,
Edward McGaugh, Roland Vandal, Leo Pion and wife Irene, and sister-in-law Loretta
Pion.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of Joseph A. and Lillian M. (LaBombard) Mayo.
Bob served in the Army Air Corps as a firefighter shortly after World War II ended,
and pursued a career as an electronics technician by benefit of the GI Bill. After
owning his own TV and Appliance business in the 1960’s, and a brief couple of years,
drilling wells for R.E. Chapman of Oakdale, he continued his work in industry as an
industrial mechanic, at Astra Pharmaceutical and Cabot Safety Corp., formerly
American Optical. Later in semi-retirement, he worked part time at night or early
morning hours in a fashion that allowed him to be home during the day to care for
his wife, Leona.
Bob was devoted to his family, his community & his faith. A member of St. Aloysius-
St. Jude Parish, former Scoutmaster and Committee member of Boy Scout Troop 125
in Rochdale and former Grand Knight of Leicester Council, Knights of Columbus, he
also served as Commander of the Color Corps, John Cardinal Wright Assembly. He
volunteered for many years at the Leicester Recycling Center and freely gave his
time to delivering Meals on Wheels.
Bob Mayo was a man gifted with an affable and engaging personality, along with an
immensely generous spirit, who excelled in and enjoyed giving of himself to others.
Our family is grateful for the care he received, with special thanks to Tina from
Visiting Angels, and the Hospice Team from Care Central VNA.
Bob's funeral will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12th. from the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester
with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Aloysius-St. Jude Church, 489 Pleasant St., Leicester. Burial will follow
in St. Philip's Cemetery, Grafton, Ma.
Calling hours are Friday, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
