Obituary

ASPELL, Sr. Mary Joseph, osc Poor Clare Nun for over 45 years, passed away suddenly on November 7, 2022. Sr. Mary Joseph (Mary Ellen) Aspell. Beloved daughter of the late Mary Ann Bowen and Robert Aspell. Sister’s only sibling, her beloved younger brother Bob predeceased her. Sister leaves her loving sister-in-law Linda Aspell and her sons Brian, Dan, and Noel along with their wives and many children whom Sister cherished with great affection.

Sister entered the Poor Clare Monastery in Jamaica Plain in 1977 and has been a Sister to each of her Sisters in Community and a vital community member. We will miss her greatly. Sister also leaves many relatives, faithful cousins, and friends beyond number whom she met while working at our front desk or when answering the phone. Sister loved to meet new people and be of service to each and everyone.

Visiting hours will take place at the Monastery of St. Clare, 920 Centre St., Jamaica Plain on Friday, Nov. 11 from 2:00-4:00pm and on Saturday morning, Nov. 12 before the Funeral Mass in the Monastery Chapel at 10:30am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Burial will follow in Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury. After the burial there will be a luncheon at the Monastery of St. Clare.
