Betty L. Spooner, 76, of Fairhaven died August 7, 2002 at Nichols House Nursing Home after a long illness complicated by Alzheimers Disease.
She was the daughter of the late Frank and Ruth (Turner) Spooner.
Miss Spooner was born in New Bedford and had lived in California, Florida, Washington, DC, and New Bedford for most of her life.
She was formerly employed as an interviewer in the New Bedford office of the Department of Welfare for many years until her retirement.
Miss Spooner played golf for over 50 years, and she had been a professional golfer on the Amateur Circuit. She was a member of Reservation Golf Club, New Bedford Municipal Golf Club, the Elmwood Women's Golf Association, and the Middlebrook Country Club of Rehoboth.
Survivors include her caregiver, Midge Trudel of Dartmouth, a brother, Leonard Spooner of Dartmouth; 2 sisters, Ruth Hathaway of Salem, Oregon, and Doris Tripp of Westport;
She was the sister of the late Marion Ryder, Robert Spooner, and Zachary Spooner.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Friday, August 9th at 10 AM.
Visiting hours Thursday, August 8th from 4-7 PM.
Interment Pine Grove Cemetery.
