New Bedford – Antonio Silveira Martins, age 83, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Ventura) Martins.
Antonio was born in Ponta Delgado, Ilha Flores Açores and was the son of the late Filomena (Silveira) and Antonio de Freitas Martins. He immigrated to the United States in 1963, where he moved to California and in 1988 moved to New Bedford. He had worked for Cuming Corporation and also Peterbilt Trucks over the years.
Antonio is survived by his loving wife, Maria Martins; son, Tony S. Martins and his wife Tammy; daughter, Stacy S. Martins-Ceja and her late husband Jesse Ceja; grandchildren, Adrianna and Karly Martins, Nico, Santino and Demarco Ceja, Kayla A., and Cassie A. Martins. He is also survived by his siblings, Maria F. Pimentel, Frank S. Martins and Maria Lourdes S. Martins; his godson, Joao Martins; his goddaughter, Melissa Ventura Ferrinha; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late José S. Martins, Mario S. Martins and Joao S. Martins.
Antonio’s visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. His funeral will take place Wednesday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
