Obituary

SPRINGVALE- Nehemiah W. Ames, age 90, died on Thursday October 20, 2022.
He was born in Maine, the first of 12 children born to John W. & Lovey E. Ames
He is predeceased by his parents and seven siblings: Herbert, James, Vashti, Nora, Michael, Mary, Matthew. Survived by his wife Brenda Sue, daughter Naomi, stepson Alex, three brothers Guy, Philip, Kenneth and one sister Jonquil.
At age 14 Nehemiah became editor and publisher for nine years of a monthly periodical that gained international circulation. Later he was a correspondent for journals in America, Europe, and Africa. He enjoyed writing to people around the world, from the North Pole to the South Pole and hundreds of lands and islands in between. He endeavored to treat everyone with respect and dignity. Many wrote to tell him how much they enjoyed his letters to them. He appreciated receiving their letters even when they were written in languages he didn’t understand.
Nehemiah enjoyed learning and writing about nature, people and their customs, geography, and history. He found much pleasure watching beautiful sunsets and sunrises. His favorite subject was the Bible, especially what it foretells about the future, when the entire globe will become an exquisite paradise.
At age 21 Nehemiah was ordained as a minister of the Gospel, serving as such as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 68 years until his death. For 25 years he enjoyed doing voluntary missionary service in several countries oversees. To support his family, he worked in various types of employment including manufacture of food products, soap, wire products; also printing and shipping services.
Nehemiah learned from his study of the Bible to view death as being similar to one’s sleeping soundly, not even dreaming, until the future time when he hears the voice of Jesus Christ say: “Nehemiah, Wake up!”
