Obituary

HAMPDEN – Theresa M. "Terri" (Conway) Balboni, 91, of Hampden, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, October 23, 2022. She was born in Springfield on June 12, 1931, a beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Grace (Tinkham) Conway. She was raised and schooled in Springfield and was a lifelong resident of the city living in the Hungry Hill section and then the Sixteen Acres section until her most recent move to Hampden. Terri worked at the Springfield Armory, the Sunshine Art Studio, and retired from the Steiger's Department Store Warehouse. She was a 50 year member of the American Legion Liberty Unit 430 where she held a variety of offices within the unit and on the state level. She also was a 40 year member of the Monday Evening PTO Club, the Breakfast Club, and since the age of 17, the Wednesday Evening Club. She also enjoyed seeing her many friends at the Hungry Hill Senior Center. Active in her Catholic faith, Terri was a longtime communicant of the former our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield. Following the closure of her beloved church, she was a communicant of Mary, Mother of Hope Church in East Springfield. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. The holidays and family events will never be the same without her famous Irish bread and apple squares. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, and her sons, Stephen and James. She leaves her daughter, Ann-Marie Girard and her husband, Tony, of Hampden; her daughters-in-law, Cindy Balboni and Deb Croteau; her cherished grandchildren, Michael (Kim) Balboni, U.S. Army Lt. Col. Mark (Jeannette) Balboni, Brian (Heidi) Klinakis, Nicholas Balboni, Stephanie (Ally) Girard, Anthony (Ryan) Girard, and McKenzie Girard; her beloved great grandchildren which include, Dominick, Colin, and Danté Balboni, Aiden and Zachary Balboni, Tristan, Gabriella, Brady and Jack Klinakis, and Ayden Girard. She also leaves her brother-in-law, John Balboni and his wife, Judy, and her many nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended members of the Balboni and Conway families. Her family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, October 31, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, Springfield, MA 01104. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01101. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in her memory to the Department of Massachusetts American Legion Auxiliary (Memo Line: Mass.
