Obituary


Worcester: Judith A. (Rice) Olson, 81, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022 in Jewish Healthcare Center with her loving family by her side. She leaves behind two sons, Mark D. Olson and his wife, Christine of Westford, and David F. Olson and his wife, Pam, of Thompson, CT; nine precious grandchildren, Courtney, Trevor, Tyler and his fiance Mary, Brendan and his fiance Janee, Haylee and her husband Jeff, Erik, Nathan, Nicholas, and Trevor; and 2 great grandchildren- Jameson and Stanley. She also leaves a nephew Paul Foster and his wife Cindy of Worcester, a niece Marguerite Foster of Worcester, a daughter-in-law Mary Olson of Shrewsbury, her long time friend Katie Tsigas and her Shirley Street neighborhood kids. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years Donald F. Olson, by her sister-in-law, Ruth E. Foster, her brother-in-law Leonard F. Foster, and nephew John Foster.

A lifelong Worcester resident, Judy was born on January 16, 1941, daughter of the late F. Stanley and Ada E. (Giffin) Rice. She graduated from South High School and from the Braille University. She worked as a special education teacher for the Worcester Public School System for many years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served in its Stephen Ministries. She was also a member of the Worcester County Light Opera, the Main South Community Development Corp., and the Rainbow Bancroft Assembly Order. She volunteered as a caregiver to older people at the Lutheran Home and for hospice. She enjoyed being at Cape Cod, spending time with her family and friends, hosting holiday parties, tree-trim parties, parties in the “Barn", and living life to the fullest.

Funeral services will be held in the Nave of Trinity Lutheran Church 73 Lancaster St. Worcester on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery at a later date. Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street on Thursday, October 27, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. Masks are encouraged at all gatherings.
