Obituary

Ann F. (Smyth) Johnson, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at her home in Charlestown. She was 85 years of age.

Ann was born in Boston on April 28, 1937, a daughter of the late William Smyth and Mary (Shanahan) Smyth. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated at St. Catherine's Parochial School and graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Somerville. Ann worked for over 25 years as a Supervisor for Filene's Basement Stores and was also a Shop Steward for their Union. Ann enjoyed shopping beyond anyone's imagination and also enjoyed traveling with her twin sister and cousin. Family was the very most important factor in Ann's life, and she enjoyed immensely the opportunity to take care of her husband and nurture her children throughout their lives and watch them become the person they are today. She took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was so very proud of each one of their accomplishments in their lives.

Ann is the beloved wife of the late Charles J. Johnson. She is the devoted mother of William Johnson and his wife Laura, Robert Johnson and his wife Kellyann, Deborah Uccello and her husband Sal and Noreen Merullo and her husband Victor. She is the loving Nana to Brian, Sara, Maria, Kaitlyn, Megan, Clint, Paul, Charlie, Ann and her 11 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved twin sister of Catherine O'Malley and her husband Frank and beloved sister of the late Mary Jannone. She is the special cousin to Peggy Melanson and sister-in-law to Chickie McNulty. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ann's visiting hours on Thursday, morning, October 27, 2022 from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. Her burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
