Ronald M. “Ronnie” McGrath, 66, of Mansfield died on Sunday May 21, 2006 at Boston Medical Center in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Cheryl A. (McConnell) McGrath to whom he was wed to on December 16, 1961.
Born in Attleboro, MA on October 15, 1939 he was a loving son of the late Frank J. and Mabel T. (Duffy) McGrath.
Ronnie grew up in Norton and was educated in Norton schools. He was a 1957 graduate of Monsignor Coyle High School in Taunton. He graduated from The U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis and had attended Johnson & Wales Business School. He served in The United States Navy from 1957-1960 and in The Naval Reserves till 1963.
He owned The McGrath Trucking Co. in Norton, a company he operated for 6 years before retiring. He had formerly worked in headquarters for the former Fernandes Supermarkets in Norton as the Warehouse Superintendent. After retiring from McGrath Trucking he worked as a Truck Driver for The Franklin Environmental Co. in Wrentham. Since his retirement he had worked part time for his friend at Prosser General Contracting in Norton.
He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield and when he was a youngster had served as an Alter Boy at St. Mary’s Church in Norton . He was a member of The American Legion Post 312 in South Attleboro
Ronnietreasured the times spent with his family and trips taken to his vacation home in Vermont. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed the times spent on his former boat “The Ginda”. His other hobbies included cooking and NASCAR racing.He had made his home in Mansfield for the past 43 years and was formerly of Norton.
Besides his beloved wife Cheryl he is survived by his devoted children. Kerry A. Holt and her husband Greg, Sr. of Mansfield, Kevin M. McGrath and his wife Kim of Rutland, MA, Kristine S. Beattie and her husband Bryan of Norton, Kathleen L. Butler and her husband Kevin of Pascoag, R.I., Keith D. McGrath of Mansfield and the late Karen T. McGrath. His dear sisters Maureen A. Bileau of Norton and Linda M. Capachin of Pascoag, R.I. His cherished grandchildren Greg Jr., Jeffrey, Jennifer, Josh, Justine, Adam, Zach, Max and Jake. Also survived by his many nieces and nephews as well as his beloved pet Daisy.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday May 26th at 9:00 A.M. from The Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:30 A. M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’ Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday May 25th from 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Ronnie’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to The American Heart Association 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
