Obituary

Anne Collier passed peacefully on October 9 at her home at Masonicare in Mystic at the age of 93. A citizen of the world, she was born in Japan, lived in Montreal where she graduated from McGill University, and began her celebrated career in Interior Design in London, England before settling in New York City for 40 plus years.
She had a lifelong connection to the family farm on Quoketaug Hill in Old Mystic and was instrumental in establishing the Marjory Middleton Collier Preserve on the Pequot Trail, in memory of her mother, by donating land to the Avalonia Land Conservancy. In 2016 she realized her dream of restoring the iconic stone ruin on Quoketaug Hill, which she inherited from her grandmother, to its former glory. To know Anne was to know the Stone House. Sleeping at The Stone House and admiring the view of Long Island Sound from the third floor was the highlight of her 90th birthday celebration.
A dedicated volunteer and a lover of art and local history, Anne commuted weekly between New York and Mystic to serve on the Boards of the Denison Society and the Pequotsepos Nature Center, focusing on preservation of the 1713 Denison Homestead. A longtime member of the Christian Science Church in Mystic, Anne's welcoming smile always greeted guests, friends and family as she shared her love of the beauty of the Mystic River area.
Anne is survived by her son David Mackersey of London, England, David's partner Eliza Rodger-Brown, together with Anne's wide fan club of nieces, nephews, and cousins. They join in extending great appreciation to the staff at Masonicare for their constant support of Anne, and very special thanks to her friend and fellow church member Wendy McAuley and her husband Steve for their unwavering care and loving devotion to Anne.
Contributions in Anne's honor may be made to The Denison Society, 120 Pequotsepos Road, Mystic, CT 06355.
A Celebration of Anne's Life is being planned for her birthday May 27, 2023 at her beloved Stone House.
