Wallace Franklin Matthews, Jr., 82, died Friday, May 29, 2006 in Satellite Beach, Florida. Graveside funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Oakridge Cemetery.
Mr. Matthews was born on June 1, 1923 in Tift County and was the son of Wallace Franklin Matthews, Sr. and Wyolene Fincher Matthews, both deceased. He was a retired civil engineer and a member of Indialantic First Baptist Church in Satellite Beach, Florida. He served in World War II from 1942 through 1945 and was a member of the 503rd Parachute Infantry Battallion. He attended Tifton Public Schools, North Carolina State University and Georgia Tech.
Mr. Matthews is survived by one son, Wayne Matthews of Deland, Florida; one daughter, Deborah Jane Painter of Durham, North Carolina; one brother and sister-in-law, Everett Fincher and Joan Fawley Matthews of Tifton; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
