Obituary

In Brockton, of Middleboro, October 6, 2022 Leo J. McGuirk husband of the late Ellen C. (McNulty) McGuirk died at Good Samaritan Hospital at the age of 88. Born in Taunton, Leo was the son of the late Michael and Anna (Wade) McGuirk. Leo was a graduate of Msgr Coyle High School class of 1952, He then went on to join into the U.S Air Force where he played in the band Tops in Blues traveling to fifty states and thirty eight countries in eighteen months, also appearing on the Ed Sullivan show. After his discharge from the Air Force, Leo went on to further his education receiving his bachelor’s degree at UMass Amherst in History. He then received his master’s degree at Bridgewater State College and his doctorate degree at Boston College in 1972. Leo was a Retired Professor at Bridgewater State College for twenty six years. His passion was music; he played in the Big Band of Middleboro and the Middleboro Marching Band playing the saxophone and clarinet. He enjoyed cooking, woodworking, reading, playing his cello, the piano, guitar, listing to music and especially spending time with his family and friends. Leo was the father of Stephen McGuirk and his wife Shari of Marblehead, Robert McGuirk and his wife Linda of Meredith, NH, Mike McGuirk and his wife Renee of West Newbury and the late Peter McGuirk. Grandfather of Emma McGuirk of Newton, Lily McGuirk of Marblehead, McKenzie, Joseph and Rachael McGuirk all of Merdith, NH, Connor McGuirk of Waltham, Brennan McGuirk of Boston, Annabel McGuirk of Ashville, NC and Eliza McGuirk of West Newbury. Brother of Lorraine Russell of Taunton and the late Robert McGuirk and Patricia Morin. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home 70 Washington Street in Taunton Tuesday, October 11th at 10 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St Mary’s Church in Taunton at 11 AM. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 3-6 PM. Interment St Francis Cemetery in Taunton. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation can be made in Leo’s name to the Music Education Department of the Middleboro Public Schools M.P.S., Central Office, 30 Forest Street, Middleboro, MA, 02336.
