Obituary

Denise Anne (Poverchuk) Gizzi, 69, a longtime Billerica resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Lowell General Hospital after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was the beloved wife of Robert Gizzi, with whom she recently celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary.

She was born on January 23, 1953 in Brockton and was a daughter of the late John P. Poverchuk and the late Margaret (Sweeney) Poverchuk. She was raised in Randolph and eventually Tewksbury, where she was a graduate of Tewksbury Memorial High School with the class of 1971. She then moved to Billerica and was married in 1973, starting a family and raising children in Billerica.

Denise loved to garden and cherished her flowers. She also held a special place in her heart for hummingbirds. She enjoyed vacationing at Salisbury Beach and at Indian Head Resort in Lincoln, NH. She adored celebrating the holidays with her family, who she loved more than anything. Being a mother and a homemaker was her life's work and legacy. When her children were off to school she joined the workforce with Interstate Electrical as an accountant for 18 years and 10 months before her retirement on February 23, 2018.

Besides her beloved husband, Bob, she is survived by their children, Ami Ratta and her husband Nick, of Londonderry, NH, Julia McMahon-Gizzi and her wife, Nicole, of Londonderry, NH, Melissa Gray and her husband, Josh, of Salem, NH and Andrea Arbaiza of Tyngsboro, her grandchildren, Alex, Jake, Lorenzo, Madison, Savanna and Brayden, additionally her siblings, Margaret Poverchuk of Lowell, Diane D’Elia of Burke, VA, John Poverchuk of North Carolina, Linda Poverchuk of Lowell, Andew Poverchuk of Haverhill, Scott Poverchuk of Epping, NH, and many nieces and nephews.

She was also a sister of the late Joseph Poverchuk.

On Tuesday, October 11, 2022 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 4 until 7 p.m., and her funeral service, which will be held at 7 p.m. at Tewksbury Funeral Home, 1 Dewey Street, Tewksbury, MA 978-851-2061 On Wednesday morning, you are welcome to join us for her committal prayers. Please meet at the funeral home between 10 and 10:30 for the procession to Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in her name to the Dana Farber Institute, 35 Binney Street, Boston, MA 02215.
