Obituary

Maureen Prewitt, affectionately known as Moe, Nana and Auntie, passed away surrounded by family and friends at home in Port Hueneme on September 11th, 2022. Born on June 14th, 1946 in Waltham, MA to William and Alice Flynn, Maureen was a kind, feisty, witty, authentic and fun loving woman whose passion for life led to many diverse interests and adventures. She had a successful career in the insurance industry. Being in leadership roles in a number of prestigious companies, she received numerous accolades and awards throughout her career.
An expert crocheter, Hallmark movie aficionado and lover of Turkish cinema, Maureen could strike up a gregarious conversation with anyone she met, engaging and conversing on any topic under the sun. The phrase, “Never met a stranger”, fit Maureen perfectly. She loved her husband Choyce Prewitt ‘terribly’ and cherished the times they traveled extensively abroad. Maureen’s children and grandchildren were her greatest joy and spending time visiting, talking and laughing with them was her favorite part of any day. She truly was their biggest fan and cheerleader.

With all her eclectic interests and loves, Maureen’s overarching passion in life was to be of service to others by sharing her experience, strength and hope as a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous. For more than 48 years she was dedicated to helping others navigate the program of AA. Maureen will be sorely missed but her memory will be truly cherished by those privileged enough to have known her.

Maureen is survived by her children, Michelle Rohrick of Eden Prairie, MN, Amy Prewitt of Ventura and Cathy Robarge of Fairfield, CA, sisters Carolyn Miller of Walnut, CA and Sharon Bechler of Ahwahnee, CA. Seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren (with an additional 2 due in February), daughters-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, cousins and nieces and nephews who loved their Auntie Moe. She is preceded in death by her husband, Choyce Prewitt Jr and son, Christopher Prewitt.

Her son, David Greene of Mesa, AZ, passed away peacefully at home on September 14th, 2022. A special tribute to David will take place at Maureen’s Celebration of Life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. (https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html)

A Celebration of Life will be held at Oxnard Performing Arts Center, Oxnard Room on October 22, 2022 at 11:00am. As mentioned, a special tribute to David, her son, will take place during the celebration.
