SALEM- Elizabeth P. *Lib* Batchelder, 99, wife of Eliot P. *Batch* Batchelder, of Marblehead, formerly of Salem, died Saturday morning, August 3, 2002 in the Devereux House in Marblehead following a short illness.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Warren P. And Alice M. (Morency) Fitz.
Mrs Batchelder left Salem and moved to New York in the mid 1930's, and resided there for 40 years. She was employed in the office of the Benck Furniture Company in New York City and was a member of the Gilbert and Sullivan Operetta. After her return to Salem in 1977, she resided in Salem until moving to the Devereux House in 1997. Prior to moving to New York, she played the organ during silent movies at the former Plaza Theater in Salem.
Besides her husband, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage, she is survived by two nephews, R. Douglas Fitz of Georgetown, John H. Batchelder of Northwood, NH, three nieces, Annah B. Dupuis and Mary Lee Goodwin, both of Marblehead, and Lois G. Ricker of Portland, Oregon. She was the sister of the late Hardy Fitz, Roland Fitz and Alice C. Sowle.
At her request, funeral services are private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem.
