Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Rene G. Vigneault, Jr., 82, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at UConn Health in Farmington, Connecticut surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Ludlow on October 20, 1939, a beloved son of the late Rene G. and Sophie T. (Swienton) Vigneault. He was raised and educated in Ludlow and had lived there most of his life before moving to Springfield in 2013. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps with the C Company 8th Engineer Battalion and attained the rank of Corporal. He was employed as an Auxiliary Police Officer for 30 years with the Ludlow Police Department and had also worked as a Carpenter for many local construction companies. During his leisure time, he enjoyed playing softball as a pitcher with the Henningtons and later the Bostonians. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, MaryAnn (Moustakis) Vigneault; his five dear siblings, Raymond H. Vigneault and his wife, Janet, of Ludlow, Dennis N. Vigneault and his wife, Carol, of Springdale, FL and Diane G. Vigneault, Dana R. Vigneault and his wife, Diana, and Debra S. Vigneault, all of Ludlow; his two dear sisters in law, Judy A. Vigneault of Ludlow and Silvia Vigneault of Austin, TX; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. He will also be deeply missed by his beloved canine companions, his dogs Hannah and Nikko. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two dear brothers, Harold R. "Butch" Vigneault and Kenneth J. Vigneault; and his dear sister and brother in law, Carol A. Plescia and her husband, Eugene. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. His Committal Service with United States Marine Corps Military Honors will follow the Mass at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. His family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Friends of TJO Animals, 66 Industry Avenue, Suite 3, Springfield, MA 01104.
