Obituary

GILMANTON ---- Nancy Wharton Massie, 70, of Lakeshore Drive, passed away on September 19, 2022 at Concord Hospital in Laconia, NH.

Nancy was born on April 23, 1952, in Arlington, MA, to the late Charles Thomas and Mary Jane (Benard) Wharton.

Nancy attended cosmetology school in Arlington, MA, and received first place at the pageant at the end of the course for her creative hair style. Nancy continued to hone her craft over the course of 50 years. She had her first salon at age 25. She had a natural ability with hair and one of her clients received a compliment from Vidal Sassoon. Her daring and adventurous spirit led her to a variety of challenging hobbies including skiing, ski racing, paragliding, sailing, captain of sailing races, wind surfing, motorcycling, 4-wheeling and snowmobiling. Her other interests were travel, learning piano, kayaking, running and caring for her dogs (golden retrievers). Her motto was pretend you can do it and you can.

Nancy was fiercely loving and loyal to her large family. She is survived by her daughter, Nicole Langley and her husband Matt; two granddaughters, Seanna and Makena Langley; three sisters, Susanne Grady and her husband Peter of Whitinsville, MA, Patricia Wharton of Tavares, FL, and Joyce Cronin and her husband Ed of Whitinsville, MA; as well as her step-mother, Dorothy Beard of Ponce Inlet, FL; two step-sisters, Ariel Beard-Lusco and her husband Doug, and Holly King and her husband John; and step-brother, Christopher Beard and his wife Christine. She is also survived by 8 nieces and nephews and 19 great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Bruce Massie and her brother, Kenneth Wharton of Milford, MA.

Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2022, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, in the Carriage House of Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St. Laconia NH, 03246.
