William L. Smith, 86, died on Friday, September 16, 2022 at the UMASS Memorial Health in Worcester surrounded by his family following a brief illness.
He was born in Wayland at the family residence on February 12, 1936 the son of the late William H. Smith and Harriet M. (Fitts) Smith.
Bill was the beloved husband for 49 years of the late Janet M. (Campana) Smith who died on November 11, 2009.
Loving father of Donna Magliozzi and her husband Robert of East Sandwich; Victoria Jones and her husband Philip of Sudbury and Amy McAllister and her fiancé Michael Skinner of Marlborough. Cherished Papa of Lindsey Jones Cook and her husband Benjamin; Brenton Jones; Eric Jones; Nicole Magliozzi; Danielle Magliozzi; Rachel McAllister and Jillian McAllister. He was the brother of Agnes Wood of Exeter, New Hampshire and the late Harriet Twitchell; Maryann Parr and Jane Cino. Also survived by 8 nieces and 9 nephews.
Bill graduated from Wayland High School with the Class of 1955 and excelled in sports especially baseball. Upon graduation he entered the United States Army and served his country proudly as a Specialist 3. He spent his formative years in Cochituate and lived in Marlborough for over 45 years.
Bill, working as the W.L. Corp, was well known throughout the Metrowest area as an excellent builder of both residential and commercial properties.
Cape Cod was a special place for Bill and Janet. “Papa” and “Nana” cherished quality time with their 7 grandchildren, making lifelong lasting memories for all of them. He enjoyed antiquing, especially collecting Staffordshire and American Art Pottery. Bill was an avid sports fan, particularly enjoyed the Boston Red Sox and loved baseball through his lifetime. He loved time spent with his family and quiet moments in his yard birdwatching. He will be fondly remembered by his family and friends.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rt 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Family and friends are asked to go directly to Immaculate Conception Parish, 11 Prospect St, Marlborough on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 11:00 am for Bill’s Mass of Christian burial.
Interment will follow in the Smith family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Cochituate.
