Obituary

CHICOPEE – Raymond G. Couture, 90, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2022, surrounded by all the memories that he loved and cherished. Born in Holyoke on February 26, 1932, Raymond was a beloved son of the late Napoleon A. and Marguerite D. (LaPlante) Couture. He was raised in the Willimansett section of Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School, and moved to Fairview in 1958 where he lived the remainder of his life. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. He received the Korean Service Medal with One Bronze Service Star, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Raymond attended Western New England College in Springfield and was employed as a Mechanical Engineer at the Jarvis Caster Company in Palmer. He was a communicant of Saint Anne Church and a member of the Fairview Council 4044 Knights of Columbus, the Bishop Joseph F. Maguire Assembly 2670, the Chicopee Lodge of Elks, and the American Legion Post 353. Raymond was an avid golfer who was always “working on his swing.” He enjoyed bowling and playing cards with friends and family. Raymond’s true hobby was owning six apartments, operating both as the landlord and maintenance man. There was nothing he could not fix. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Raymond. He loved a glass of cognac, a piece of dark chocolate, and the company of his friends and family. His contagious personality lit up the room, and he always had a joke for any situation. Raymond leaves his beloved wife and soulmate, Jacqueline C. “Jackie” (Brien) Couture. They were married on September 1, 1958, at Saint Anne Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 64 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving children, CindyLee M. Laramee and her husband, Peter, of South Hadley and Brien A. Couture and his wife, Paula, of Wales; his four cherished grandchildren, Benjamin Laramee and his wife, Sarah, Noelle Conachen and her husband, Ryan, Brien A.
