LEICESTER: Nancy (Sprague) Smith, 89, a former resident of Leicester and Spencer, passed away on
September 17, 2022, at Notre Dame Long Term Care and Rehabilitation Center in Worcester
after a period of declining health. She is predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Roland F.
She is survived by two sons, Robert and his wife Susan of Leicester, and David and his wife
Catherine of Millbury; four grandchildren she cherished and was so proud of, Margaret, Nicole,
Megan, and Timothy; two great grandchildren, Christopher, and Bennett; and a niece Caron
Forsberg of Carson City, Nevada.
Nancy was born in Worcester, the only child of Myron and Gladys (Baldwin) Sprague. She lived
most of her life in Leicester and was active for many years with the Leicester Women’s Club,
Leicester Historical Commission, and the First Congregational Church of Leicester.
Nancy was a graduate of Leicester High School and Boston University. She began her career
as the secretary to the president of the former Persons-Majestic Mfg. Company, before later
retiring to raise her children, while also managing the administrative functions of her husband’s
electrical contracting business. She also enjoyed hosting family and friends at the family’s
summer cottage on Stiles Lake, Spencer.
Funeral services and interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Leicester will be private. There are no
calling hours. Nancy spent the last three years receiving care and comfort at the Notre Dame
Long Term Care Center. The family greatly appreciates the compassion and commitment of the
staff which meant so much to Nancy and impacted her in such a positive way. In lieu of flowers
memorial contributions may be made to Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Patient Activity
Fund, 559 Plantation St. Worcester, MA 01605 or to the charity of your choice.
