Obituary

Thelma (Jane) Elizabeth Gosnell, 95 of Havre de Grace, Maryland passed away peacefully on September 9, 2022. Thelma was born in Cambridge, Maryland to Emory and Louise Keller on March 7, 1927. Her favorite childhood memories were spending summers at the house of her Uncle Bill and Aunt Edna Jones and enjoyed the weekly Sunday visits to Dunloggin Farm where her grandparents Willis and Daisey DeMoss were the diary farm managers. She also loved Christmas time because of all the wonderful cakes and cookies her grandmother Daisey would make.
In 1941, she left Southern High School and began working to help support her family. First working a lunch counter in downtown Baltimore with her older sister Mary. It was this job she met her future husband John Robert Gosnell who was serving in the Untied States Navy during World War II. Her next employment was a bookkeeper for S & N Katz Jewelry, retiring in 1952 to start a family. In 1968 her husband passed away from leukemia and she took over as President of the Industrial Paper Company until it sold to Colony Papers Inc. in 1969. Her next employment was with the Social Security Administration becoming a supervisor in the Claims representative department from 1969 to 1990. After a brief retirement she came back to become the office manager of ALW Bookkeeping & Tax Service from 1993 until 2018 working with her oldest son John.
She loved her childhood growing up in Pigtown and renovated many homes in the area throughout her life. She also loved the beach and purchased a property in Montego Bay Ocean City, Maryland in 1983 which the family still owns today.
Thelma is survived by her four sons John Robert Gosnell, Jr., Stephen Keith Gosnell, Timothy Emory Gosnell, and Mark Earl Gosnell, her sister Marcella N. Schmidt and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Hubbard Funeral Home, 4107 Wilkens Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21229 on Tuesday September 20th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8p.m.; where all are invited to attend Funeral Services on Wednesday, September 21st at 10:00a.m. Interment to follow at Lorraine Park Cemetery.
