William “Bill” Woods, 78, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, May 18, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, May 21, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with Pastor Nook Metcalf Burge and Elder Jerry Barrs officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 until 9 Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Woods was born January 3, 1928, in Coffee County, Georgia to the late Dan and Maggie Carter Woods. He grew up in Irwin County and was the last of seven children. Mr. Woods was a carpenter, retiring after twenty-two years with Western Sizzlin Steak House in Charleston, South Carolina and was a former employee of David Sims in Fitzgerald. He moved back to Fitzgerald in 1991 from Charleston and was a member of the Colony City Community Church.
Mr. Woods is survived by his wife: Inez Bridges Woods of Fitzgerald; sons and daughters-in-law: James D. “Jimmy” & Kim Woods of Charleston, SC, Tommy F. & Carolyn Brown and William D. & Susie Woods, all of Fitzgerald; daughter and son-in-law: Janet B. & Clarence Morton of Charleston, SC; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
