Obituary

CHICOPEE – Margaret J. (DeMaio) Daniele, 93, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, September 15, 2022. She passed into Eternal Life at Mary’s Meadow in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and wonderful caregivers. She was born at home in Agawam on August 21, 1929, the beloved daughter of the late Emidio and Giovannani (Basile) DeMaio. She was raised in Agawam, graduated from the High School of Commerce in Springfield, and moved to Chicopee in 1949 where she lived the remainder of her life. She and her husband, Carmino, were the longtime co-owners of Sorento’s Restaurant and Daniele’s Gulf Service Station, both on Westover Road in Chicopee. Most of all, she was a devoted homemaker who took great pride and love in caring for her husband and family. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. She leaves her beloved husband and soul mate, Carmino R. Daniele. They were married on July 4, 1949 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 73 years of happiness together. She also leaves her two loving children, Susan J. Zacharie and her husband, Donald, and Anthony J. Daniele, all of Chicopee; her two cherished grandchildren, Scott A. Zacharie and his partner, Erich Zielonka, and Kristopher M. Zacharie and his wife, Kelly; her two cherished great grandchildren, Bridget and Dylan Zacharie; her dear sister-in-law, Olympia Daniele of Chicopee; her dear niece, Angie Leone of Wilbraham; and her many additional nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her dear siblings, Aimlio DeMaio, Filomena DeMaio, James DeMaio and Margaret Cardaropoli. Her family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Mary’s Meadow in Holyoke for their compassion and care for Margaret. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Family and Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (please meet directly at the Church). Her Burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to Sainte Rose de Lima Church, c/o 15 Chapel Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
