Maffei, Emma Marie (DiChiara) of Norwood, formerly of Roslindale and East Boston passed away peacefully on the morning September 12, 2022. She was 99 years old. Born in Chelsea on November 28, 1922, the daughter of the late Riguidatta (Rossetti) and Rafael DiChiara. Beloved wife of the late John J. Maffei, Sr. (BFD). Loving mother of Barbara Burdick and her husband Harry McIntyre of Norwood; John J. Maffei, Jr. and his wife Susan of Plymouth and Marianne Lord and her husband Peter of Weston. Cherished grandmother of Tracy, Sean, Bobby, Alisa, Jennifer and John. Great-grandmother of 9. Dear sister of Christopher DiChiara of Scottsdale, AZ and Carol Aliberti of Saugus. Beloved friend of her wonderful caregivers especially Rose and Udieya. Emma was pre-deceased by 2 brothers and 5 sisters. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Emma met her beloved Johnny in the 1940's. A war bride, she traveled to Washington State where they would marry before Johnny was shipped out to the Pacific. After Johnny's sudden passing in 1974 Emma, now a widow at 51 years old, went to work at Boston College where she was a 43 year employee in Controller’s office. A position she thrived at until a stroke forced her to retire at the age of 93. Boston College is where she would work and meet many people that she considered her extended family. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Emma's Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, September 17, 2022 in Sacred Heart Church, 169 Cummins Hwy, Roslindale at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Roslindale. In lieu of flowers, donations in Emma's memory may be made to the Campus School at Boston College, Campion Hall, 140 Commonwealth Ave, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467.
