Obituary

Jesus M. Ortiz passed peacefully in his home with his loved ones on September 13th, 2022, at the age of 79. Jesus Ortiz was born on January 7th, 1943, in Coamo, Puerto Rico. He was the son of Victoria Ortiz and Esposorio Ortiz and 1 of 11 siblings. After graduating high school, he worked for a short time in Puerto Rico as a farmer with his father and brothers before moving to Boston, Massachusetts in the 1960’s to create a life for himself and his future. There he reunited with his wife Gloria Ortiz whom he grew up with in the same neighborhood of Puerto Rico as well and knew of each other’s families since childhood. In 1976, Jesus and Gloria got married at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross and started a life together alongside their 3 children Maribel, Marisol, and Jose. He has 5 grandchildren Giovanni, Avanté, Tiana, Abram, and Josie. In 1982, he embarked on one of the greatest callings he had in life, that was to become a deacon and he was ordained in 1986. Jesus went on to serve for over 5 churches in the Greater Boston area for over 30 plus years. He was awarded multiple awards and recognitions of his service including a certificate of appreciation for his outstanding and remarkable work from Our Lady of Lourdes Parish on June 16th, 2018, where he last served. In his down time, he loved spending time with his loved ones, telling stories and creating long lasting memories with them. Jesus loved special gatherings such as Christmas and Thanksgiving with his immediate family where he would all gather us together to play dominoes, music and various instruments. He loved to travel back to Puerto Rico to visit his friends and family. Jesus loved baseball and although he loved the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees was his favorite team. Outside of serving as a deacon he was still involved. Jesus was a part of a prayer group with his former parish community. He also loved reading, writing and challenged himself with different kinds of word puzzles. Jesus was a loving son, devoted husband and father, a caring brother and uncle, the greatest grandfather and dedicated deacon to his community. His soul was just as beautiful as he was. Known to be kind, giving, humble, and caring to each person he has ever came across. A true angel on this earth that is now resting in his Heavenly Father’s presence as he awaits for us to meet him again in eternal life. We all will love, remember and keep him in our hearts for who he was forever. We would love for all who knew Jesus to join us and celebrate his wonderful life: Visiting hours will be held at the Brady & Fallon Funeral Home 10 Tower St (Opp. Forest Hills MBTA Station) Jamaica Plain on Friday September 16 from 5PM-8PM.
