William K. Walkden, 87

Dateline: Taunton, MA

William K. Walkden, age 87, a lifelong resident of Taunton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, September 9, 2022 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. He was the beloved husband of Myrtle H. (Sabean) Walkden, to whom he was happily wed for sixty-six years.

Born in Taunton, MA on August 27, 1935, he was a loving son of the late Samuel and Doris (Rylander) Walkden.

Bill was a 1953 graduate of Taunton High School and played on the high school football team. Prior to retiring, he had worked as a Wire Drawer for thirty-eight years at the former Texas Instruments in Attleboro. When younger, he was employed at the former Fernandes Supermarket in Norton.

A member of the MeetingHouse Church in West Mansfield, Bill cherished times spent with his much-loved and adoring family. Following retirement, his daily routines included traveling amongst each of his children’s homes to visit. He loved being outdoors, projects in his yard and will always be remembered for his strong work ethics. Bill was also an avid New England sports fan and when younger, enjoyed building and racing boats and sailboats.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Wayne E. Walkden and his wife Mary-Ellen of Taunton, Scott D. Walkden and his wife Frances of Worcester and Susan B. Grundy and her husband Mark of Berkley. He was the treasured grandfather of Timothy Arruda, Aaron, Jacob and Meghan Grundy, Brooke Maciorowski, Hannah Walkden and several great grandchildren. He was the dear brother of Elizabeth Davidson of Taunton, John Walkden of East Freetown and is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, September 13th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.

His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 14th at 10:00 in the MeetingHouse Church, 11 Otis Street, West Mansfield. Burial will follow at the Mayflower Hill Cemetery in Taunton.
