TEWKSBURY - Elsie M. (Giles) Goss, 82, a former resident of Tewksbury and avid Bingo
player, died Thursday morning, May 18, at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough,
NH, after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Boston, on August 17, 1923, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Mildred
(Shuby) Giles, and raised in Wilmington. She moved to Tewksbury, where she resided the greater
part of her life, before moving to Rindge, NH, in 2002 to live with her daughter’s family because
of health issues.
She worked as a seamstress at the Simmons Mattress company in Medford for more than 27
years, and later worked at DuPont company in Billerica, before her second retirement from
Hoffman’s Furniture manufacturing in Lowell, ten years ago.
She was well known in Bingo circles throughout the Tewksbury area, was an accomplished
Crochet crafter, recently completing the task of afghan blankets for each of her twenty two great
grandchildren, a former candlepin bowler, and a passionate Red Sox fan.
She is survived by four children and their spouses, Raymond Goss Jr, and his wife Marianne
(Borges) of Tewksbury, Linda McNamara and her husband Larry of Newport, NH, Cheryl Marsh
and her husband Wayne Marsh Sr of Rindge, NH, Nancy VonKahle and her husband Michael
VonKahle Sr of Claremont, NH; twenty one grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; three
sisters, Dorothy McGillick of Tewksbury, Mildred Nadolny of Burlington, Betty Roy of Fla; a
brother, Robert Giles of Fla; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette “Sis” Giles of Pepperell, Marjorie Giles
of Tewksbury; numerous nieces and nephews; and her ‘best friend’ Muffy.
She was also sister of the late Larry Giles, Norman Giles, and Ernest Giles.
Her funeral Service was held Monday, May 22, in the funeral home. Burial followed at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorial to the American Lung Assn., P.O. Box 265, Burlington, MA 01803
