STANDISH - Florence Luce Smith, age 92 passed away August 28, 2022 at her home in Standish after a brief battle with colon cancer.
Florence was born in Readfield, Maine to Ada A. (Bartlett) and Edgar I. Luce of Readfield Maine. She moved with her family to Standish as a young girl. She attended and graduated from Standish schools where she met her future husband Russell. Florence and Russell were married on August 5,1950, and had recently celebrated 72 years of marriage.
She worked for Maine General Hospital in Portland, Richard Higgins Texaco in Standish, Charles Kalil Auto Auction in Sebago Lake and finally The Hanold Co. in Standish from which she retired.
Florence was a lifetime active member of The Eastern Star. She loved hunting and fishing. Some of her favorite memories were made at their camp in Frenchtown near Kokadjo, Maine. She loved to go riding around anywhere and everywhere. There was often a restaurant stop included with many of those rides. She enjoyed bowling with friends, watching the birds at her bird feeder, reading and working the daily crossword puzzles.
Florence is survived by her husband Russell G. Smith, sons Dale and wife Dora of Standish, David of Frenchtown, and daughter Lydia Perkins and husband Perry of Hiram. Three grandchildren, Heath Smith and his wife Nicole, Danielle and her husband David Chauvette and Devon Smith and partner Ryan Graves; Seven great-grandchildren. Dawson, Dalen, Olivia, Emily, Hope, Allison and Andrew. She was also survived by nieces, nephews, several step-grandchildren and step-great-great grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date followed by burial at Dow Corner Cemetery on Cape Road in Standish.
