Obituary

Nancy Beth Lane, 59, of Yarmouth, ME, passed away surrounded by loved ones on August 29th, 2022, after a long-term battle with early onset dementia.

Born in Arlington, Massachusetts, on April 23rd, 1963, Nancy grew up in Winchester, MA. At Winchester High School, she was a standout student, a terrific tennis player, and a lifeguard. She attended and graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1985 with a Bachelor's degree in Spanish.

For several years after college, she worked and excelled as a Customer Service Trainer for L.L. Bean after being a representative herself. After having her son, Alex, Nancy shifted towards her life’s work within education. She volunteered at the Merrill Memorial Library in Yarmouth and was an elementary school substitute teacher. This work allowed her to pursue becoming a teacher while also caring for Alex.

In 1998, Nancy began working as a librarian in Maine’s school district, MSAD #51. She pursued and earned her Master’s Degree in Education from The University of New England. In 2003, she began her full-time career as a teacher for 4th and 5th graders. Her education career spanned nearly two decades of service to her precious students and community. Nancy will be remembered for her compassionate, creative, dedicated, and patient approach to teaching.

Nancy loved the important and simple things in life. She adored her friends, students, and family pets (Raisin, Ebony, Hobbs, Abby, and Brady). Nancy was an avid reader and loved tending to her garden while having a nice glass of wine at the end of the day. She enjoyed laughs with her friends, holidays with her family, and living in the beautiful community of southern Maine. Her family will miss her smile, quick sense of humor, kindhearted gentle support, and giving nature as a sister, daughter, aunt, and mother.

Nancy is survived by her only child, Alexander C Brewer, and his wife, Molly, of Fayetteville, NY; her father, Peter M Lane of Chelsea, MA; her mother, Marilyn E Harrington, and her husband, John, of Arlington, MA; her sister, Andrea B Marino, and her husband Nick, of Arlington MA; her niece, Amanda T Marino and her nephew, Nicholas R Marino, both of Arlington, MA. She was predeceased by her father’s late wife, Carol K Lane.

A service in her honor will occur at Costello Funeral Home in Winchester, MA, on Friday, September 2nd, 2022, at 11:00 am.

Donations are encouraged in Nancy’s name to McLean Hospital, whose research and diligence diagnosed and unlocked the resources to care for her (https://giving.mclean.org) or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America to continue the fight against early-onset Alzheimer’s and dementia (https://alz.org/donate/).
