Obituary


John J. Morandi, Sr., a lifelong resident of Woburn passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, August 28, 2022. He was 97. John was the beloved husband of the late Mary J. (Tibaudo) Morandi. Born in Woburn he was the son of the late Michael and Maria (Gentile) Morandi.

John was a proud United States Army Veteran of WWII. When he returned home from overseas, he began his career as a talented Barber. He owned and operated the J & J Barber Shop which was located at 9 Montvale Ave here in Woburn for nearly fifty years and retired at the age of 80. As a young man, John was an amateur boxer and continued to be an avid fan of boxing throughout his life as well as a fan of all the major Boston sports teams. He enjoyed staying shape and loved to walk and keep active. For many years John also sidelined as a travel agent organizing bus trips to Atlantic City and the Foxwoods Casinos for clients and friends. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and over the years He enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas and Atlantic City to try his own luck. In more recent years he enjoyed playing online poker on his computer. He will be greatly missed.

John is survived by his children; John J. Morandi, Jr. and his wife Denise of Tewksbury, Marie Haugh and her husband John of Groveland, Joni Marra and her husband Dave of Milford, NH. He was the loving grandfather of Nicole Princic and her husband Dan, Emily Melo and her husband Michael, Brian Haugh, Justin Marra, Rachel Harrington and her husband Matt, Gina Marra and her fiancé Nick. Loving great grandfather of Andrew, Nicholas, and Katherine Princic, Owen Melo, and Liam Harrington. Loving longtime companion of the late Lorraine Malinowski. Brother of the late Angelina Vasapoli, Anna Carbone, Joseph, Anthony and Paul Morandi. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Friday, September 2nd, at 10 :30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with military honors and burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to the charity of one's choice.
