Obituary

William Joseph Ferguson, 97, of Weston died peacefully and comfortably on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at the Newton Wellesley Hospital following a period of declining health.
He was born in Belmont on July 16, 1925 the son of the late Robert D. Ferguson and Margaret A. (Bowen) Ferguson.
William is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 72 years, Eleanor Rita (Harding) Ferguson of Weston. Beloved father of William J. Ferguson, Jr. and his wife Rebecca (Ransom) Ferguson of Weston; Robert T. Ferguson and his wife Patricia (Berry) Ferguson of Weston and Diane J. Ferguson of Weston. Cherished grandfather of William J. Ferguson, III and his wife Michelle; Laura Ferguson Ruchim and her husband Adam; Robert T. Ferguson, Jr. and his wife Shalissa; Colleen Ferguson Correia and her husband Joshua; James Christie Ferguson and his wife Carol; Christine H. Ferguson and Caroline E. Ferguson. Also survived by nine great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert L. Ferguson; Margaret Evelyn (Ferguson) Molloy; Edward R. Ferguson and Douglas J. Ferguson.
William has been a resident of Weston for 58 years. He spent his formative years in Watertown and was a graduate of Watertown High School with the Class of 1943.
He served his country proudly with honor with the United States Navy as an Electricians Mate Second Class during World War II with the U.S. Navy Submarine Service. He was a life member of the Submarine Veterans of World War II, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 45 of Waltham.
He was the founder and CEO of W.J. Ferguson Electrical Contracting Company, Inc. from 1957 until 1978 and was well known throughout the Boston area. From 1978 until his retirement in 1998, he was the Manager of the Boston Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association. William was a dedicated businessman and thoroughly enjoyed that role throughout his entire life. He was considered to be a man who was easy to chat with, share stories and just enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a devout Catholic and brought his family up with strong moral standards.
Visitations will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rt 30), Wayland.
On Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 10:00 am, family and friends are invited to go directly to St. Julia Parish, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston Centre for his Mass of Christian Burial.
Interment will follow in the Ferguson family lot in Linwood Cemetery in Weston.
