Obituary

Mary B. “Maureen” Cabral died suddenly Aug. 26 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington surrounded by her loving family. She was 83 years old. Born in Somerville to the late Patrick and Bridget A. (Dunleavy) Kelly she attended St. Theresa’s and graduated from Somerville High with the Class of 1956.
Maureen furthered her education at Boston State, earning a Masters degree in Mathematics and English. She taught math at Wilmington High School before falling in love and marrying John J. Cabral, a physicist who became a naval aviator during the Vietnam War. John’s service had the family stationed in several locations, including Jacksonville, FL and Okinawa. John died serving his country in 1972. Maureen and her young son, John P. Cabral, settled in Winchester, MA and she continued her teaching career at Middlesex Community College. She was active in St. Mary’s parish and a diligent member of the Gold Star Wives of America.
Maureen is survived by her loving son John P. and his wife Keren of Silver Spring, MD, her sisters, Kathleen O’Meara of Somerville and Shelia Tighe of Melrose, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are welcome to gather for visiting hours at the Costello Funeral Home 177 Washington St., Winchester on Tuesday from 4-8 and again on Wednesday morning at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester at 10AM. Interment Puritan Lawn Cemetery Peabody.
