Obituary

WEBSTER – Mary C. (Hoenig) Lenky, 86, formerly of 17 Batten Street, died Monday, May 15, in Webster Manor. Her husband of 50 years, Walter B. Lenky, Sr., died in 1997.

She leaves a son, Walter B. Lenky , Jr., and his wife Barbara A. of Webster; two daughters, Patricia A. Trotter and her husband Eric J. of Lansing, NY, and Jacqueline A. Gliesman and her husband Kenneth P. of Fiskdale; seven grandchildren, Jared, Karli, Tara, Derek, MacKenzie, Eric John and Kari; one great grandson, Noah; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother George Hoenig, by her sister Jeannette Polacek and by her grandson Jesse.

She was born in Webster and raised in Thompson, the daughter of Vencil and Catherine (Maciejewski) Hoenig. She lived in Webster most of her life. She graduated from Tourtellotte Memorial High School in Thompson in 1938 as the valedictorian of the class. She then studied at Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester and received her diploma as a registered nurse in 1941.

Mrs. Lenky began her career as a supervisor at Memorial Hospital in Worcester. She later worked at Hubbard Regional Hospital for many years, retiring as the head nurse in 1978. Among her supervisors and peers, she was known for her dedication to her patients and passion for her profession. Her two daughters followed in her profession, graduating from the same school. Her granddaughter Karli is a registered nurse.

She was a member of Saint Louis Church. She was an expert crossword puzzle solver and an avid reader. She enjoyed her almost daily luncheons with her group of lady friends. Above all, she was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandson.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, May 23, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake St. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. Calling hours will be from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM Monday, May 22, in the funeral home. Donations in her name may be made to The Memorial Hospital Alumnae Association, 119 Belmont Street, Worcester, MA 01605, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
