Obituary

LOWELL--Edward Leo McHale, 86 years old, a former Lowell resident, died Tuesday morning, May 16th, at the Greenbriar Terrace Healthcare Center, in Nashua, NH. He was the husband of the late Florence (Petty) McHale, who died in 1984.

He was born in Lowell on March 5, 1920, a son of the late John and Mary (McCarthy) McHale, and was a graduate of Lowell High School and Lowell Commercial College.

Mr. McHale served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon his discharge, he was a civilian employee for the Navy. He worked at the Naval Publications and Forms Office, in Philadelphia, and at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Bermuda.

Surviving him are two daughters and a son-in-law: Martha McHale, of Nashua, NH; and Gwen and Carl Paiva, of Pembroke, Bermuda; two granddaughters: Gretchen Paiva-Canning, of Pembroke, Bermuda; and Holly Paiva, of Pembroke, Bermuda and Portland, ME; two great-grandchildren: Chloe and Sage Canning; also many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was the brother of the late Leo ‘Flash’ and Norbert McHale, Gladys Corbett, Nora Hill, and Hazel ‘Mickey’ Murray, and the uncle of the late Jackie McHale.

Friends may call from 8:30 to 9:30 AM on Thursday May 18th, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith St. (Rte.38), Lowell. His Funeral Mass to follow at 10 AM at ST. MICHAEL’S CHURCH. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association; 330 Congress Street, #5; Boston, MA 02110.
