Dorothy E. (Barrett) Shappe, a resident of Peabody and formerly of Salem and Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at the Pilgrim Rehabilitation & Nursing Home in Peabody. She was 90 years of age.
Dorothy was born in Boston on November 29, 1931, a daughter of the late Ellen Barrett. She grew up in Somerville where she was educated throughout the Somerville Public School system. In her early adult life, Dorothy worked at Matthews Salad House on Medford in Charlestown and as a Home Health Aide servicing the Charlestown and North End neighborhoods. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling with her beloved husband Henry. Family was very important to Dorothy in her life and she cherished the quality moments she spent with her husband and 2 daughters and their families but most of all she was so very proud of each one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all of their accomplishments they have achieved.
Dorothy is the beloved wife of the late Henry F. Shappe. She is the devoted mother of Dorothy Corndell and her husband Mark and Patricia Cleveland and her husband Arthur. She is the loving Nana to Mark, Lisa, Stephen, David, Pattie and her cherished great-grandchildren Darren, Dakota, Riley, Lilly, Ashley, Tyler, Kelly, Aidan, Henry, Tabitha, Zoey and Patrick. She is the beloved sister of Carol Margey and the late Lillian DiFraia, James Ivester and Maryellen Lawrence. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Dorothy's Funeral on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 10 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. Her burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Her visiting hours will be on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 from 3 to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
