Obituary

Dorothy Rose Young (DiBenedetto) was born in Cambridge, MA on September 2,1931 and lived most of her life in Somerville prior to moving to Tewksbury in 2008. She passed from this world into the next on August 12, 2022. Her late husband John Alexander Young preceded her in death in 1989.

Dorothy was one of five children (Anthony, Anita, Rosemary, Gene) born to the late
Assunta (Massa) and Rocco DiBenedetto. While growing up in Cambridge she attended grammar and high school at Saint Mary of the Annunciation. As a young woman Dorothy worked at the Eastern Company in Cambridge where she made friends with another young woman who introduced her to her brother whom she married a few years later.

Dorothy was a loving and dedicated wife to John and mother to Paul Joseph. She was always supportive of her family and always enjoyed cooking delicious meals. She enjoyed going to her favorite local Italian restaurants in Tewksbury for her favorite meal, chicken parmigiana. Dorothy had many interests, but particularly enjoyed reading murder mysteries, sewing quilts as well as her own clothes, and knitting. She was exceptionally good at playing cribbage. She worked in various occupations over the years in Somerville including cooking for the nuns at St. Polycarp convent, librarian at Somerville Public Library, babysitter for her next door neighbor where she taught them reading, and administrative assistant at the former Little Flower grammar school in Somerville for over 10 years and an insurance company in Malden where long lasting friendships were formed.

Moving from Somerville to Tewksbury to the Emerald Court Condominiums enabled her to have the retirement she so deserved where she made many friendships over the years and participated in the numerous activities held there. Playing cribbage at the Tewksbury Senior Center was an especially enjoyable pastime as well as attending various functions there.

Dorothy leaves behind her son Paul and daughter-in-law Susan (Kwiatkowski), sister Anita also of Tewksbury and brother Gene of Charlotte, North Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
