Loretta Anita (Caron) Price, age 98, died peacefully August 2nd, 2022 at the Care One facility in New Bedford. She was the widow of Harry Price and former wife of the late Edward Gendrin. She was the daughter of Wilfred and Mira (Guillette) Caron, both of New Bedford.
Survivors include her beloved son, Michael Gendrin of New Bedford as well as three dear grandchildren, Michael Gendrin and wife Lydia, Donna (Pires) Araujo and husband Jack, all of New Bedford and Benjamin Andrews III and his wife Jennifer of Springfield, MA. Mrs. Price also leaves nine great-grandchildren, Amy (Currie) Prezner, Richard Eaton, Taneisha (Araujo) Sears, Jenna Araujo, Larissa Araujo, Deasia Andrews, Jaden Andrews, Nathan Gendrin and Noah Gendrin. Loretta cherished nine great-great-grandchildren, Victoria, Lauren, Austin, Matthew, Jodie, Hayley, Brad, Serenity and Aylah.
She was the mother of the late Barbara Gendrin Pires, the grandmother of the late Lauren Price Currie, and great-grandmother of the late Hollie Marie (Eaton) Spooner and Brayden Gendrin all of New Bedford. She was pre-deceased by her daughter-in-law, Barbara (Wallace) Gendrin and was the sister of the late Jeannette (Caron) Howe of San Diego and Wilfred Caron of Grants Pass, Oregon.
For Many years Mrs. Price was employed at Continental Screw Company as an Electrical Discharge Machine Operator. She served on the Board of Directors of the Continental Employees’ Credit Union.
As an active member of the United Auto Workers’ Union Local 384 she was Chairman of the Women’s Committee and Financial Secretary.
After Continental Screw closed Mrs. Price completed training as a Job Search Workshop Leader under the Job Training Partnership Act and work for the UAW Union. The program later became part of a City of New Bedford agency, JTEC, for whom she worked until retirement.
Shortly afterwards, Mrs. Price became a Shine Counselor for Coastline Elderly Services and a Volunteer for the New Bedford Council on Aging. For the next ten years she was employed by COA as an Outreach/Benefits Counselor finally retiring March 31st, 2007.
Her interests included flower gardening, reading, being with her beloved family and also being a friend and advocate for the elderly.
Per her wish, her remains have been donated to the University of Massachusetts Medical School. At her request final plans will be private.
